This training will cover three topics of high interest and classroom application to all German teachers, particularly those at the middle and high school levels.
This is a virtual event that will take place via Zoom. There is no cost for this training and Goethe-Institut CEUs will be available for participants.
- Racism in Germany
Content: Definition of racism and important vocabulary, the situation in Germany, introduction to German colonial history, important current discourses in Germany concerning racism, resistance against racism in Germany, methods, ideas and suggestions to include this topic into German lessons in the U.S. on all levels. Presented by Theresa Fuchs, Language Consultant at Goethe-Institut Chicago and Susan Feiler, German teacher at Hayt Elementary School in Chicago - Germany’s Dual Education System
Content: How does Germany’s dual education system differ from the “College for All” model in the United States? What does Germany’s “earn and learn” apprenticeship model entail, and how does it contribute to a highly-skilled workforce? These questions and more will be addressed as we take a deeper look at Germany’s post-secondary education pathways. - Requirements and Options for Study in Germany
Young people today have many more options for studying in Germany beyond traditional college exchange programs. Content to include logistics related to visas, health insurance, and the application process, as well as new pathways for non-German speakers. Nils Martin from the Goethe-Institut in DC will also take participants on a virtual tour of the Institut’s new “Career Bus” and Study Bridge
